Congleton needs a fresh start and a local MP who can deliver and meet the challenges we face. Take a look at my priorities and pledges below.
My Priorities for Congleton
This is my plan for giving the Congleton Constituency the fresh start it needs.
Tackle the cost of living crisis
Our country is experiencing the biggest drop in living standards since records began and the Conservatives have done nothing to stop it.
I will work to tackle the cost of living crisis, support our local residents, and back local small businesses. I will also work with trade unions, local businesses, and with local & national government to protect our high streets, and boost our small towns and local economy.
Action on climate change
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges we will ever face and we must see real action to tackle it and protect our local environment.
I will take action by campaigning for more investment in renewable energy, supporting Labour’s plans for Great British Energy, holding water companies to account to protect our local waterways, and support a Green New Deal to work towards net zero and create the green jobs of the future.
Protect our NHS
Our NHS has been brought to its knees by 14 years of the Conservatives. Record waiting lists, cancelled operations, staff vacancies & people in Congleton struggling to get access to care.
I will fight to protect our NHS, campaign to improve local provision, protect the Congleton War Memorial Hospital, support NHS staff with their pay & conditions, and work to ensure we see a national strategy to improve mental health services.
A new deal for workers
Over a decade of the Conservatives has led to stagnating wages and in-work poverty increasing.
I would fully back a new deal for working people including a real living wage, a ban on zero-hour contracts, employment rights from day one in the job, outlawing fire & rehire, implementing stronger family-friendly employment rights, repealing the Conservative’s restrictions on trade unions and working to close the gender pay gap.
Fairer funding for our schools
Schools in Cheshire East are some of the worst funded in the UK with 142 out of 147 schools in the borough facing cuts of £9.6 million in 2024. Whilst almost 1 in 4 children are growing up in poverty in our constituency.
I will work to get fairer funding for our local schools, improve SEND provision in the area, support measures to eliminate child poverty, back Labour’s child health action plan and support free school meals for all so that local children can be happier, healthier & get the best start in life.
Better transport for Cheshire
Transport in our constituency and across Cheshire is dire. 14 years of the Tories has seen cuts to bus services, under-investment and the cancellation of major infrastructure projects like the northern leg of HS2.
I will fight for better investment in local transport, functioning bus networks, better cycle infrastructure, investment to fix our crumbling roads and I will back ending the privatisation of our transport services. I will push for a full devolution deal for Cheshire so that our area can unlock some of the same opportunities as Manchester & the Liverpool City Region.
My Promises to Members
A visible and active candidate for the whole constituency
I will be a visible active presence in every part of our constituency, across all the towns and villages in Congleton.
An active and engaging campaign
My campaign will start on day one and be active in winning over the local voters we need to win. I will also work with people across our constituency and local party to build the best campaign possible.
Holding Fiona Bruce to account
I will continuously hold Fiona Bruce to account and keep to the issues that are facing our constituency. And if elected as the first Labour MP for Congleton, I will be a real local MP for all our communitiess
